{"id":9489,"date":"2025-11-25T14:11:45","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T14:11:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elpregonerodechile.com\/?p=9489"},"modified":"2025-11-25T14:11:45","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T14:11:45","slug":"plurinational-gathering-concludes-with-agenda-against-javier-mileis-austerity-measures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elpregonerodechile.com\/?p=9489","title":{"rendered":"Plurinational Gathering Concludes with Agenda Against Javier Milei&#8217;s Austerity Measures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Original article: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elciudadano.com\/latinoamerica\/transfeminismo-en-pie-de-lucha-encuentro-plurinacional-cierra-con-agenda-contra-el-ajuste-de-milei\/11\/25\/\" target=\"_blank\">Transfeminismo en pie de lucha: Encuentro Plurinacional cierra con agenda contra el ajuste de Milei<\/a><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>In the Argentine province of Corrientes, the strength of the transfeminist movement was on full display over three days at the 38th Plurinational Meeting of Women, Transvestites, Lesbians, Intersex, Non-Binary, and Binary individuals.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which served as a space for resistance, attracted over 70,000 participants and concluded on Monday with the choice of C\u00f3rdoba as the venue for the next gathering and the presentation of conclusions from workshops that outlined a common agenda opposing the austerity policies of the far-right government led by Javier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elciudadano.com\/?s=Milei\" title=\"Milei\" class=\"search-link\">Milei<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1986 in Buenos Aires as the Meeting of Women and modified in 2022, the Plurinational Meetings have come to symbolize significant political events that shape the pulse of the transfeminist movement and define the agenda discussed and organized each year.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s edition featured demands to combat femicides, end hate speech, oppose attacks on gender policies, and address budget shortages, extractivism, and the exploitation of the Paran\u00e1 River.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abIt was the perfect setting to channel both the strength of working women, frustration from victims of gender-based violence, outrage over cuts to gender policies, and the fury of the trans community, and also to collectively envision the future of transfeminism and its possible constructs,\u00bb noted special correspondents Aldana Somoza and Maby Sosa in an article for El Tiempo Argentino, in collaboration with Agencia Presentes and the radio cooperative Mega 98.1 in Corrientes.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-basta-de-femicidios\"><span id=\"stop-femicides\">\u00abStop Femicides!\u00bb<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>During the gathering, thousands filled the streets of Corrientes last Saturday for a massive march covering 5 kilometers from the Poncho Verde roundabout to Costanera Sur.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"534\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1136603\" src=\"width:626px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.elciudadano.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Screenshot_20251125_092911_Instagram-1024x534.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.elciudadano.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Screenshot_20251125_092911_Instagram-640x334.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.elciudadano.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Screenshot_20251125_092911_Instagram-360x188.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.elciudadano.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Screenshot_20251125_092911_Instagram.jpg 1058w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo: Agencia Presentes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The leading group of marchers carried a banner featuring the face of Joan Pe\u00f1a, a five-year-old boy who went missing in June 2024 in Corrientes, whose whereabouts remain unknown, highlighting human trafficking as one of the pressing issues facing the movement. We must continue fighting in a very adverse context where we need to discuss a project, knowing that union action without a political outlet isn\u2019t enough,\u201d stated Carla Gaudensi, General Secretary of the Argentine Federation of Press Workers.<\/p>\n<p>She elaborated on the challenges faced by the sector: \u201cWe are under attack from this government not just because we are communicators but also because we are organized workers. We cannot allow anyone else to speak for us,\u201d she argued.<\/p>\n<p>Dina S\u00e1nchez, a leader from the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP), broadened the focus to include informal economics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to elevate the agenda of our union and our popular economy. We believe it is crucial to discuss new ways to organize work. We don\u2019t want more Julias, we don\u2019t want more Macarenas Valdez, and it just so happens that these women are our lamien who have been murdered. And there is no justice for them,\u201d stated the granddaughter of the president of the Putreguel indigenous community in M\u00e1fil.<\/p>\n<p>Francisca Droguett, a water defender, connected ecological struggle with transfeminism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are bodies of water, we are nature (\u2026) extractivism is also patriarchy,\u201d she said, denouncing the high rate of femicides and trans-femicides in mining areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the storm, feminism creates shelters, and this is ours,\u201d she suggested, cited in the article published by El Tiempo Argentino.<\/p>\n<p>From Salta, Mar\u00eda Emilia D\u00edaz of the chorote community and Pia Ceballos, a trans activist from the wich\u00ed people, spoke about state abandonment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe suffer from hunger, malnutrition, and lack of water,\u201d D\u00edaz stated, while Ceballos reiterated their commitment from their identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs trans people, we renew our commitment; we defend water, our territory, and the land. The fury has coalesced into a collective battle plan.
