The extraordinary visiting minister for human rights violation cases from the San Miguel Appeals Court, Marianela Cifuentes, spearheaded a series of investigations into illegal burials at the Los Bronces mine, located in Cuesta Barriga, under the National Search Plan.

According to a bulletin from the Judiciary, these proceedings (case role 02-2026) aim to clarify the fate of 110 victims who are believed to have been buried and exhumed in the area. An on-site inspection was conducted at the mine and its surroundings to assess the current status of the site and the feasibility of conducting further investigative actions.

The inspection involved experts from the National Service of Geology and Mining (Sernageomin) and the Central Criminalistics Laboratory of the PDI, along with officials from the National Search Plan, members of the Monitoring Committee for the National Search Plan, and relatives of victims of enforced disappearances.

At the Los Bronces mine, located at kilometer 12 on Route 78, numerous detainees were buried and later exhumed, as stated by various state agents over the years, per the operations of security agencies such as the dissolved National Intelligence Directorate (DINA), the Joint Command, and the Carabinero station of Curacaví.

These individuals are still categorized as forcibly disappeared detainees.

In this context, in 2001, the then-minister of the San Miguel Appeals Court, Héctor Carreño, conducted a series of investigations in the area with the assistance of Sernageomin and the Legal Medical Service, among other agencies. During this occasion, four shafts were examined, uncovering several human skeletal remains.

We will continue to provide updates.
