Original article: Sanders destroza a Trump por guerra con Irán: “Es peligroso y mentalmente desequilibrado”

Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders harshly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for igniting a war against Iran, labeling him as «dangerous and mentally unstable.»

This marks one of the most recent ultimatums the Republican magnate has issued to Tehran since the military conflict began in tandem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump threatened to unleash «hell» on Iran by attacking Iranian infrastructures next Tuesday, which is the deadline he set for the Islamic Republic to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, a maritime route through which about 20% of the world’s traded oil and gas transits.

«Tuesday will be Electric Power Day and Bridge Day all in one in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!» Trump tweeted on Sunday via his social media platform, Truth Social.

“Open the f***ing strait, you crazy bastards, or you will live in hell. YOU WILL SEE!” added the current occupant of the White House.

Trump set 8:00 PM (Washington time) on April 6 as the deadline for Iran to reopen this crucial maritime route for crude oil exports from countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Iraq.

The disruption of vessel flow through Hormuz has caused a severe spike in oil prices, turning the crisis into a direct geopolitical and economic headache for the U.S. Consequently, the far-right leader has ordered the deployment of thousands of troops to the Persian Gulf to prepare for a potential ground invasion aimed at taking control of the strait.

“Do you remember when I gave Iran ten days to reach an agreement or open the Strait of Hormuz? Time is running out: there are 48 hours left for hell to be unleashed upon them. Glory to God!” he stated on Saturday on his social media platform.

«Dangerous and Mentally Unstable»

These comments, deemed inappropriate for a U.S. president by many, alarmed political actors, including Senator Sanders, who accused the president of being «mentally unstable.»

“A month after the start of the war in Iran, this is the statement of the President of the United States on Easter Sunday. These are the ravings of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual. Congress must act NOW. Let’s end this war!” he asserted, referring to the armed conflict initiated by Trump and Netanyahu on February 28, resulting in over 1,900 civilian deaths, mostly women and children, and at least 20,000 more injured.

Iran Will Not Succumb to Trump’s Pressure

The Iranian military leadership rejected Trump’s new threats to destroy the nation’s vital infrastructure if it does not agree to a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirming that they will not accept external conditions to change their stance on the conflict.

General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, in a statement from the Central Command Headquarters Khatam al-Anbia, characterized the ultimatum as «an impotent, nervous, unbalanced, and foolish act.»

From Tehran, officials maintain that any negotiations can only occur under conditions different from those proposed by Washington, considering terms that do not involve direct pressure.

This Monday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Qaribabadi, stated that the use of force against Iran’s territorial integrity constitutes a blatant violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter (absolute prohibition on the threat or use of force) and is considered an act of aggression according to the UN General Assembly Resolution 3314.

He indicated that Trump’s threat to attack power plants, bridges, and other civilian infrastructures constitutes a war crime according to Article 8(2)(b) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Geneva Protocol I of 1977 (Article 52), reported HispanTV.

«The President of the United States, in his capacity as the highest official authority of his country, has publicly threatened to commit war crimes, an act which carries his individual legal responsibility before the International Criminal Court and any competent national tribunal,» he noted in a statement shared on his account on X.
