“There Are Things No Child Should Ever See”: Heartbreaking Call from the Palestinian Community in Chile

The Palestinian Childhood Story the World Ignores El Ciudadano

“There are things no child should ever see. But in Gaza, children talk about missiles, losing their grandparents, seeing their mothers hurt, and living in constant fear.” With these poignant words, the Palestinian Community in Chile spreads a testimonial video that captures the interrupted childhood in the region. Young Gazans are growing up amid bombings, destruction, and losses that should never exist.

Some recount having to gather human remains in the streets; others sleep with the sound of attacks as their only certainty. “This is not just a crisis. It is a reality that repeats itself every day. It is not normal. It shouldn’t be. Let’s not ignore what is happening,” emphasizes the organization in its outreach material.

Statistics of Horror: Attacks on Children in Gaza

According to data released in March by humanitarian organizations, over 90% of homes in Gaza have been destroyed or severely damaged since the onset of military aggression. Nearly 22,000 Palestinian children have lost their lives since October 2023. In addition, more than 41,500 minors have been injured, over 21,000 have been left with disabilities, 1,500 have suffered amputations, and 17,000 have been orphaned. Behind every number is a broken childhood and a devastated family.

A recent UNICEF report, published in March 2026, delves into the devastating consequences. The agency estimates that more than 64,000 children have died or been injured in the Gaza conflict. Homes, hospitals, and schools have been destroyed, depriving families of security and essential services. Over 56,000 children have lost one or both parents, while widespread displacement, malnutrition, and trauma continue to affect all aspects of childhood in the enclave. The Palestinian Community in Chile insists that watching the video is the first step to not ignoring what happens every day under the bombs.
