The Executive Committee of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) expressed its «deep concern and alarm» regarding the looming danger in the region «following the escalation of intrusive actions by the United States against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and all of Latin America and the Caribbean.»
In a public statement, the Council warned that «this episode of aggression, with threats to sovereign maritime and aerial space, and a proposed ground incursion, creates a dangerous military escalation with unpredictable consequences, violating fundamental principles of international law, and the sovereignty and self-determination of the Venezuelan people.»
«Under the false banner of the ‘drug fight’, a narrative has been constructed that seeks to legitimize interventions and coercive measures aimed at seizing the energy resources and trade routes held by Venezuela and the peoples of the region,» the statement reads, published on the CLACSO website.
Finally, the organization called for «the activation of international mechanisms, respect for international law, and solidarity among peoples to ensure the end of this dangerous military invasion threat.»
